Is Anything Stable?
November 14th, 2008I am in my recliner at home by the fire as I write this blog. As I have been thinking about what I might write this time, my mind goes back to the message I shared last weekend. We talked about the fact that life so many times is like a Duncan Yo-yo, and many times we feel like we have been caught in the “sleeper” mode right above the floor wondering if we will ever snap back to the top.
We have watched our world change drastically in past year. It takes everything I’ve got to set down in the evening at watch the nightly news. It can be so depressing. We live in a time when everything around us seems to be so unstable. The stock market seems to be fluctuating by the hour, people go to work wondering if today might be their last and our world feels like a powder keg getting ready to explode at any moment.
I know, you read that and it can be pretty depressing, but I have some great news for you! In a world that seems so unstable, we have a Rock that we can hold onto that is completely stable. The God who holds this universe together is an unchanging God. When everything else around us is changing so quickly, we can be assured that He will never change. In Malachi 3:6 God says, “For I, the Lord, do not change…” Hebrews 13:8 reads, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” That is great news!! Because our stability is not in the economy, our government leaders or anything or anyone else. Our stability lies in the One who never changes and He is capable for keeping us steady in the storms of life. To Him be the glory!
So remember three things:
- Failure and discouragement need to be kept in perspective.
- Success and elation have got to be tempered with realism.
- The balance between the highs and lows requires stability.
Don’t forget the great lyrics of Andrea Crouch’s song: “Through it all, through it all, I’ve learned to trust in Jesus, I’ve learned to trust in God. Through it all through it all, I learned to depend upon His word.”
Have a great rest of the week and keep trusting!
